Module 1: What is Sickle Cell Trait (SCT)?

Course Content and Objectives

Welcome to our course on Sickle Cell Trait (SCT).

We developed this course to introduce you to the characteristics of SCT, to dispel some of the myths surrounding it, and to provide some guidance on how you might treat and counsel people with SCT.

In this course you will learn:

• The defining characteristics of SCT;
• Which SCT diagnostics are best, and
• How SCT affects pregnancy, athletic endeavors, high-altitude activities, and the kidneys.

The course has three instructional modules. In each of them you'll be asked to solve a Sickle Cell Trait clinical situation, choosing the best course of action. There are also Learn More and reference number links which will lead to additional material; clicking on these will not take you out of the course. And a course evaluation for you to complete.
